Horse-chestnuts are scientifically known as Aesculus Hippocastanum. It is a flowering plant in the Soapberry and lychee family Sapindaceae. It is a large tree, growing to about 39 meters. The leaves are opposite and palmate compound, with 5-7 leaflets. Usually only 1-5 fruits develop on each panicle, the shell is green, spiky capsule containing one nut-like seeds called conkers or horse-chestnuts

The common name Horse-chestnut originated from a belief that the tree was kind of chestnut. It was also believed to help panting or coughing horses, hence the name Horse-chestnut.

It is widely cultivated in streets and parks throughout the temperate world. It has been particularly successful in places like Ireland, Great Britain and New Zealand. In Britain and Ireland, the seeds are used for a popular children’s game called Conkers. During the First World War, there was a campaign to ask everyone to collect horse-chestnut and donate them to the government.

Though the seeds are said to repel spiders, there is little evidence to support this claim. The presence of Saponin may repel insects but it is not clear whether it works on spiders or not.

Trees are also preferred in the gaming and graphics world to give it a wild look. FlatPyramid has developed a 3-D model of GameReady Low Poly Tree Pack 3 (Horse-chestnut). It is a gameready model ready to be used as soon as you purchase it. We hope that you like it.
