45 ACP 45 Colt is a cartridge gun. Colt Single Action Rifle, a revolver made by manufacturing firm Colt. M1911 pistol, a semi-automatic pistol manufactured by manufacturing company Colt.
This new round using the same rebated heel type round, built on the significantly older 44 Colt round. It was dubbed the Colt 45 and everything was right with the world. The Colt shooters could use the shorter Smith & Wesson cartridge easily, so quartermasters started to refer to the Colt round as 45 Long Colt.
The standard military issue.45 ACP round has a 230-grain bullet traveling at about 830 feet per second when fired from the M1911A1 pistol government issue. It operates at a relatively low chamber pressure rating of 21,000 psi (145 MPa), which helps to extend the service life of weapons due to a low bolt thrust.
Colt had worked with Browning on a.41 caliber cylinder in 1904, and Colt revised the pistol design to fire an enlarged version of the.41 round prototype in 1905 when the Cavalry asked for a.45 caliber equivalent. Colt’s response was the 1905 Version and the new.45 ACP cartridge.
