We would like to take up here again what Walter Benjamin said about architecture as
"Prototype of a work of art perceived in a way that is both absent-minded and collective" rather than
Contemplation, it would be appropriate to speak of tactile reception, that is to say
addiction. But the distracted man is perfectly capable of accustoming himself. In order
to clarify our point of view, it is not just about addiction, it
also provides sensations related to our movements, which affect us and transform us and
without our being aware of it and without being made aware of it by someone else or
encouraged by a third party to verbalize it. The famous text of Benjamin, written in 1935
for its first version, said that the work of art in the era of its technical reproducibility synthesizes in
a few sentences many of the findings that will be developed in modern architecture, in the first place this idea
which wants the buildings to be the object of a double reception: by the use and by
the visual reception, between tactile reception and visual reception, the first separating, in fact, the
contemplative dimension to privilege habituation, in contrast to the second. And
Benjamin goes on to note that it is precisely addiction that governs even
to a large extent, the visual reception of the architecture, a reception which, by nature consist
much less an effort in garnering attention than in an incidental perception, a perception that
although involuntary (subliminal) leaves traces in the memory.
