In 1942, inspired by the success of the German Sturmgeschütz III, the Hungarian general staff decided to build an assault gun. The design was based on tue 40M Turan I chassis, replacing the turret with a fixed gun in an armoured superstructure. Two designs were made; the44M Zrinyi I and the 43M Zrinyi II. The Zrinyi I was designed as a tank destroyer, armed with a long-barrelled 75 mm gun, but only a single prototype was made. The Zrinyi II, armed with a 105 mm howitzer, was designed for infantry support. A total of 60 Zrinyi II were build.
The Zrinyi Hungarian self-propelled gun based on Turan chassis was build in between 1943-44. 66. The idea of making own assault gun was inspired by the west’s successful propelled assault guns. There were two models that were introduced Zrinyi I and Zrinyi II. The first one was designed to fulfill an anti-tank role, whereas the second one was made as an infantry support vehicle. The Zrinyi II was also carrying a long 43M 75 MM gun, which didn’t pass the prototype phase.
This tank was able to attain 43 km/h speed and 4 infants in the compartment. The entry and exit points are only one. At the heart of Zrinyi Manfred Weiss V8 cylinder260 hp with an operational range of 220 Km. Moreover, this vehicle has served in World-war II.
Once, a serviceable Zrinyi II was also captured by the Romanian troops during September 1944. which was being pressed into service for a limited time period. Later the service gun was donated to the Red army.
