Focke-Wulf Fw 190 Würger 3D model ( German " shrike ") - single-seater, single-engine German fighter from the times of the Second World War. Produced in over 20,000 copies, including about 6,000 in the hunter-bomber version.

At the end of 1937, the Reich Ministry of Aviation (Reichsluftfahrtministerium - RLM) sent to several establishments a specification for a new fighter that would enter, alongside Bf 109, for service and provide security in the event that it turns out that planes from other countries are better than Bf 109.

At that time, the constructors of the Focke-Wulf plant under the direction of prof. Kurt Tanka and engineer Rudolf Blaser worked on several fighter projects, mostly with in-line engines. Among them was the design of a fairly small fighter with a compact cylinder design with an 18 cylinder air-cooled BMW 139 star engine. At the time, in Germany, the star engine was not considered to be the right aircraft propulsion, especially the fighters. But failure with the Heinkel He 100 and He 112 fighter project and predicting that line engine manufacturing plants will not be able to produce enough of these engines in the near future, have contributed to the fact that this project was ordered and its development started. In addition, it was noticed that relatively successful constructions of fighter planes with star engines were created abroad. Directly developing the Fw 190 was carried out by a team led by engineer Rudolf Blaser.
