Messerschmitt Bf 109 3D model - German fighter aircraft , basic Luftwaffe fighter during World War II.

The prototype of the Bf 109 fighter was a plane developed for Romania under the name M37. During further work, the plane was called Bf 108 and was produced under this name. Bf 108 Taifun was a two-seater communication plane. The Reich Ministry of Aviation (Reichsluftfahrtministerium) in 1933 placed an order for a new fighter aircraft. Willy Messerschmitt , Robert Lusser , Hubert and Richard Bauer were involved in design work in the spring of 1934. The construction of the first prototype of the new aircraft marked V1 (V as Versuchsmuster: an experimental copy) was launched in the autumn of 1934. Flight tests with a blocked retractable chassis began in May 1935. The first prototype uses an English engineRolls-Royce Kestrel V12 with a starting power of 695 hp (511 kW), propelling a two-blade, wooden propeller with a constant pitch. The four largest German aircraft design offices , Arado , Focke-Wulf , Heinkel and Bayerische Flugzeugwerke, became the four fighter aircraft competition announced at that time . The construction of the offices of the last two plants qualified for further development: He 112and Bf 109. During comparative tests of both prototypes, the Bf 109 achieved a maximum speed of 22 kilometers and a higher climb speed. He 112, however, gained very flattering opinions from pilots, praising a comfortable cabin with very good visibility, good handling of this aircraft during taxiing and better maneuverability and piloting properties. Initially, the tender was settled in favor of the Heinkel team, but the intrigue and cunning of prof. Willy Messerschmitt decided to continue work on the prototype Bf 109. Later, the Messerschmitt AG plant merged with Bayerische Flugzeugwerke. In total, about 33,000 Bf 109 different versions were produced.
