The Lockheed L-1011 TriStar (Russian Lockheed L-1011 Traystar), often referred to as simply L-1011 (pronounced "el-ten-eleven") or TriStar, was the third wide-body passenger jet airliner in the world, following the Boeing 747 and McDonnell Douglas DC-10 and ahead of the Airbus A300. Like the DC-10, the TriStar was equipped with three engines. From 1968 to 1984, Lockheed Corporation produced about 250 copies of L-1011. After the appearance of the L-1011 TriStar, Lockheed withdrew from the commercial airline market due to lower sales levels than planned.
