The U.S. Army accepted in June-July 1944 a limited run of 254 M4A3E2 Jumbo Shermans, which had very thick armor, and the 75 mm gun in a new, heavier T23-style turret in order to assault fortifications. The M4A3E2 Sherman Jumbo variant had even thicker frontal armor than the Tiger I. Intended for the assault to break out of the Normandy beachhead, it entered combat in August 1944.

To do a wide variety of duties such as engaging the enemy’s tank to protect infants the Sherman tanks were famous for performing wide array of special duties. It was built in the early 1940s. Later on, these tanks were upgraded into armed personnel carriers.
The Sherman series wasn’t limited up to one or two models. It has produced several variants in which M4 A3 E2- Sherman jumbo was equipped with extra armour (including 1-inch front), vertically sided turret which was 3-4 mph slower built with 75mm gun, which was frequently re-armed by using the 76mm guns. The end connector was made up of duckbill style extended connectors (EEC’s), which were fitted to the edge of the tracks.

These tanks were mostly used by US and France armies. The ford’s GAA V-8 engine was fitted with this jumbo machine. Moreover, after the end of the First World War, the Sherman was also supplied to other nations, but primarily to South America and the Middle East. Israel became the largest importer of Sherman tanks. Though, Israel made some extensive modifications to keep them in front line services. Sherman tanks were last seen active in the 1973 October war. The very last serving of the Sherman series was in 1989. Now they all are well preserved in the museums to tell the story of their glorious history.
