The Ford Toploader 4-speed transmission with a Hurst Competition Plus shifter, with bell housing to bolt right up to my Ford 427 engines found elsewhere on this site. Also included is a bell housing which allows use with my early Ford flat head and Ardun head engines also available on this site. Nicely detailed with most fasteners, dimensionally correct within reason, but not an exact reproduction.
A toploader transmission may be a manually shifted three and 4 speed gearbox introduced in 1963 by the Ford Motor Company to exchange the Borgwarner T-10. It was utilized in most Fords and Mercurys from 1964 until 1973 also as some foreign models.
Celebrated for high-performance indestructibility, the Toploader, especially the four-speed, was equipped in such wanted “A-list” cars including the Mustang, Talladega, AC Cobra, AC Frua and Sunbeam Tiger as well as the Ford Fairline, Falcon, Galaxie, Ranchero, Torino and the Mercury Comet. Overall, the toploader was utilized in 133 different models and was used at length in racing also. The 3-speed 3.03 was also the heavy duty transmission in 60s Olds, Buick and Pontiac Cars with FOMOCO cast into the right side.
The Toploader includes two components, the first case, which encloses the gears, the input and counter shaft, and next is the tailhousing, which encloses the speedometer gear and Output Shaft. The main case measures 12 inches in length, while the tailhousing measures 14 inches, 14 ½ “ or 17 inches, depending on the application.
