Learning How To Market My 3D Modeling Services (Week 16)

This week I decided to attend a marketing seminar to learn how to market my custom 3d modeling services better and generate more business. It was only a one day workshop… which I felt was great.

Day one began with us all introducing ourselves and then been put into groups of fives. Unfortunately, for me there was a lady by the name of Sarah in my group. Now Sarah was a lady that I had met several weeks back at her office while working on a 3d modeling project.  She was the supervisor and had hired me to create 3d models showcasing their line of salty packaged potato chips.  It was there I met my girl friend Katrina Jones her mortal enemy.  You see Katrina had stolen Sarah’s husband and then dumped him afterwards leaving her without a husband and now a single mother of two kids. So the fact that I ended up dating Katrina made me her enemy too.

During our first session break, I went to use the bathroom but when I returned I found out from the other team members that Sarah had been saying some really nasty things about me. She had said that “I was a scumbag type of guy that only dated prostitutes and whores and had ripped her company off when hired to do a custom 3d job for them.” I was surprised at the insults and outright lies she had fabricated.

So I accosted her and warned her not to talk about me anymore. But she remained calm and kept a poker face as if she did nothing. I then informed the workshop leader and requested to be moved to another group but he said he could not do so as nobody wanted me in their group and he was not sure why. Apparently, Sarah had not only told my group members all these lies but everyone else in the room. So I now had the uphill task of trying to convince others that I was a decent upstanding member of the society so as to make me not an ostracized member of the group.   It didn’t work so I ate lunch alone.

I called my girlfriend Katrina Jones to tell her about what had happened. She repeated a quotation from a book she was reading to comfort me which said “Many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they look for a place to dump it. And if you let them, they’ll dump it on you. So when someone wants to dump on you, don’t take it personally. Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. Believe me. You’ll be happier.”

That and my Katrina’s sexy voice…made me feel a LOT better.

I learnt quite a bit of marketing nuggets from the workshop. For example, we were provided the following marketing chart that shows that people are influenced more to buy by deal offers than by reviews.

After the marketing workshop, I decided to implement the marketing strategies I had learnt. I called up all my prospecting clients and offered them 30% off my custom 3d modeling services if they commissioned a custom 3d modeling job with me before the end of the month. I also provided them reviews from my previous clients to test out the info I had learnt.

It worked. I got hired by two clients and went to work immediately. On Thursday, I delivered the completed 3d model files and discovered that both clients refused to pay me. They both said that they had no funding yet and so could only pay me later. They only chose to take me up on my offer because they did not want to miss out on the deal I had offered.

Today as I sit in my apartment completely broke with my rent due in a week….I wish they had taught us in the marketing workshop that with deals you attract “cheap ass” clients that can’t pay for your services.
