The Beach (Week 10)

The Beach (Week 10)

Last weekend was very hot in Los Angeles, so my girlfriend Katrina and I decided to go hang out at the beach. I brought my laptop, speakers and camera with me to the beach. My goal was to use the beach environment to stimulate my imagination to create.

While chilling on the sand listening to Swedish House Mafia, I got inspired and decided to use the opportunity to work on some 3d models for a client who had recently shot holes in my idea to create a 3d models of some of the houses on the beach coastline that I thought would be great marketing material for his business.

Katrina was lying next to me on the sand in a very sexy bikini which of course helped inspire me. Then suddenly there was a guy standing over us. He said “Hey Dude is it ok if I have a word with her?” referring to Katrina. I said that I did not think that was appropriate as she was my girlfriend. He then kicked sand unto my laptop and yelled “asshole!”

I was not sure what to make of it. Do I now have to get into a fight with some random dude at the beach? Or perhaps report him to the cops? But wait, there are no cops just the life guard on duty. While I was contemplating what to do…I looked closely at him only to realize that he was actually a guy with Down syndrome.

Just then, two girls came over and apologized for him saying that he was just having a really bad day. I thought I recognized one of the girls as Margaret my ex-girlfriend from 3 years ago. However, she seemed to have put on so much more weight and was now looking really rubbery in her swim outfit. Just then, she recognized me too and yelled “Its you! The asshole Jon Max. So…tell me… are you still a self absorbed bastard?”

Here I was simply trying to have a mellow time at the beach but now been attacked by two people. She then kicked sand at me and stomped off with her Down syndrome brother. I explained to Katrina that I had broken up with her 3 years ago due to her temper tantrums and it didn’t help that she had gain 20 pounds while we were dating. I mean, 5 pounds is forgivable but putting on 20 pounds is pushing it with any guy especially here in LA.

Back then I was 3d modeling at a very cool startup firm and had just been earmarked for a promotion to lead a group of fellow 3d modelers and animators. My boss had invited me for dinner and had said to me “Please join me and my wife for dinner tomorrow night and you can come with your girlfriend, wife or partner if you are gay”.  I said “I am not gay and would be bringing with me Margaret my lovely girlfriend.” What a BIG mistake.

I arrived with Margaret for dinner. She ordered the most expensive sea food on the menu and woofed it down like a glutton making sloppy sounds as she ate to my dismay and embarrassment. She then got into an argument with my boss’s wife over a stupid TV show.  When she got up to go to the rest room, she farted loudly and then said “excuse me peeps” rather nonchalantly. At that point I was horrified.

Needless to say, after that dinner I was not promoted. My boss said to me that my personal life was in shambles and so he could not have me leading and setting that kind of example for the team of 3d artists.

So as Margaret wobbled off still cursing at me, I thanked my lucking stars that I ended the relationship when I did. I took a look at Katrina, the wonderful coastline, the beautiful people all around us at the beach and my imagination started to soar. I went into a creative zone that I had not been in for quite a while and created the most wonderful 3d model I think I have ever created.
