Central to my work is the exploration of the human body from biological and neuroscientific perspectives. My current body of work uses plastic-based clay such as Super Sculpey's Polymer clay and Apoxie Sculpt, to sculpt grotesque, hyperrealistic impressions of human forms. I use digital, Adobe products to bring my sculptures to life through informal projection-mapping.In 2024, I will study a Master’s degree in Sculpture at the RCA to investigate neuroaethetics and neurobiology from a sculptural perspective. On the course I will create interactive, animatronic sculptures and installations inspired by the book ‘Your Brain on Art’ (Magsamen and Ross 2023). My area of research explores the impact art has on cognitive processes and emotional well-being, examining how our brains respond to art, from visual perception to emotional reaction. My long-term ambition, after completing a PHD in Art Psychotherapy, is to develop a business that creates evidence-based, arts enriched environments for people who have neurological and/or psychological conditions. The body is an endless subject of examination and sculptural inquiry. My practice is characterised by its complexity and heterogeneity, often focusing on the tangible and multisensory aspects of body-based art. I use my creativity as a diagnostic tool to define the intensity of our sensory landscapes, taking ownership of our vulnerabilities and blurring the boundaries between artist, artwork and viewer. With empathic sensitivity, I juxtapose dark subject matter with comic irony. I use unconventional and unsettling materials to express personal narratives, embracing the concept of beauty in the grotesque. My impressions of physiological and psychological states offer raw insights into the human experience, fostering conversations at the intersection between art, science, and humanity.
