Classic marble column 3D model.
The architecture of the column is a pillar, often cylindrical, usually wooden, stone or metal. In the classical architecture supports entablature (or arch).
The column may also not support any massive building element, but serve as a decorative or triumphal decoration, for example, with a statue on top or just stand in front of the facade, holding only the entablature segments, but not carrying all of its load (see the fixed order).
There are also semi-columns and pilasters. A semicolumn protrudes from the plane of the wall by half its diameter; can support structural elements and perform a decorative function. Pilaster has external similarities with the column, but it does not have entasis; can be either a bearing architectural element or a decorative.
