Teddy Bear 3D model.

The teddy bear is one of the most popular and cult types of soft toys in the XX century and the beginning of the XXI century: a toy bear made of soft material.

In Western Europe and America, it is known mainly under the name of "Teddy" (English teddy bear, it. Teddybär), traditionally associated with the name of US President Theodore Roosevelt.

The name “teddy bear” has been established in Russian, although nowadays not all toy bears of this type are made of plush.

Bears from various European and American firms of the early 20th century (produced before World War II) are a popular collectible item.

In 1902, US President Theodore Roosevelt spared on the hunt of an American black bear, driven by a hunting team with dogs, half-beaten and tied to a tree (willow). Roosevelt was invited to shoot prey. He refused to do it himself, arguing that it was “unsportsmanlike,” but ordered the bear to be shot down in order to stop his torment. The story got into newspaper cartoons, but over time it was adapted for business reasons, and the bear turned into a little cute bear cub (in a caricature in the Washington Post of November 16, 1902). The details of the story blurred with time, the main one remained - Teddy (Roosevelt's nickname) refused to shoot the bear cub. One of the cartoons with the scale reduced to a bear cub caught the eye of the wife of Morris Michtom, an emigrant from Russia (his real name is Mikhail Mishim), the owner of a toy store. She and sewed the first bear, like a bear from a caricature. It was installed in a shop window and named "Teddy Bear", in honor of President Roosevelt. The new toy caused unprecedented interest among the buyers and soon, after receiving Roosevelt's consent to use his name, Michtom founded the Ideal Toy Company, which was producing toy teddy bears. Although the success of the cubs was colossal, it did not bring wealth to Mitchom. He made a serious mistake - did not patent the new toy and its name. Soon there were many companies that produce similar bear cubs and use his idea.
