A windmill (windmill) is an aerodynamic mechanism that performs mechanical work due to the wind energy that is caught by the wings of the mill. The best-known use of windmills is to use them to grind flour.

For a long time, Dutch Windmills, along with water mills, were the only machines used by mankind. Therefore, the use of these mechanisms was different: as a flour mill, for processing materials (sawmill) and as a pumping or lifting station.

With the development in the XIX century. steam engines use of mills gradually began to decline.

The “classic” windmill with a horizontal rotor and elongated quadrangular wings is a widespread element of the landscape in Europe, in the windy flatland northern regions, as well as on the Mediterranean coast. For Asia, characterized by other designs with a vertical placement of the rotor.

A Dutch windmill designed and textured in 3ds Max 7. This is a windmill that you would see all over int he villages in the Nederlands. It is also animated.
