In the XX century, the situation in the road sector has changed dramatically due to the advent of road transport. The use of cars has put forward new pavement requirements. The methods of laying roads have also changed: from long straight roads, which were typical for Roman roads, they moved to clothoid trails — curves with a smoothly varying curvature with short straight sections.
