as an integral player in the dynamics and quality of education, well-being, and creativity
of students and faculty. It is expected to stimulate activities and exchanges, thus promoting
development of a learning community.
Thus recent projects seek to physically transpose, in the image and in the organization of
buildings, contemporary trends to the prospective dimension of learning, study activities
and research, open pedagogy, innovative collaborations, new synergies.
The architectural form and the functional management of spaces, interior, and exterior, aim at the expression
communication, meetings, exchanges, interactivity. They encourage
exchanges between, pupils, students, teachers, researchers, staff. Reflections in progress
go further, proposing to develop participatory design and planning strategies
integrated for universities.
By transforming the essence of utopian ideals into tangible goals, these strategies should shape
models characterized by a great deal of freedom and flexibility in terms of space and time. It is
important to keep in mind that in order to create a university complex, it is not enough to have
architectural and planning techniques; it is also necessary to provide a framework for an architecture of which
the goal is to stimulate human activity.
The recent advent of high-speed wireless Internet access and embedded technologies has opened up
remarkable opportunities for mixed learning models - online or in-person - of the 21st century. The
closed classroom represents a physically outdated model of teaching that no longer goes hand in hand
with the interconnected virtual world in which we now live. All other places available, even
not dedicated: offices, refreshments, rooms, corridors, recesses, outdoor spaces ... can be transformed into
valid teaching and learning frameworks. The idea is that as part of a comprehensive educational project,
alternatives to the traditional amphitheater should make all passive roles obsolete. Many
innovative environments are now being tested as a result of these developments.
