In the middle of Murmansk, Russia, the Azimut Hotel Murmansk is a high-rise hotel. It opened in 1984 as the Arctic Hotel (Russian: ARCTICA) and was renamed after major renovations in 2014 as the Azimut Hotel Murmansk.
It is Murmansk’s highest building and the highest building north of the Arctic Circle. The hotel is situated at Five Corners, the main square of Murmansk, 82 Lenin Avenue. The hotel had a cafe, a billiard room, a hairdressing room, a tanning room and several stores, bars, and coffee shops.
The first hotel called Arctic in Murmansk was opened in 1933.
It was a four-story brick building with 100 rooms The old hotel was demolished in 1972 – 1984 and replaced by the existing building.
The hotel was a state-owned business until 1988. It became the property of a Soviet-Swedish joint venture in 1990.
The City of Murmansk owns half of the shares and the Azimut Hotels Company holds half of them.
