Coffee table (also coffee, sofa) - an elongated low table, which is usually placed in front of a sofa, couch or group of chairs in the living room or in the hall to decorate the interior and temporarily place books, magazines, candlesticks and other items.
Coffee tables are used to form a recreation area, but they can also be used to receive visitors. Sometimes this table is used to organize a small dining area, as the table allows you to place dishes and cutlery on it, although the understated height, small area and the location of users in chairs or sofas around the table limit its functionality as a piece of dining furniture. On these tables are usually served coffee, tea, snacks with wine.
At first, the products were called tea or coffee tables, and later, when newspapers became popular, the press began to have them - the name “coffee table” gradually appeared. The spread of coffee tables influenced the book design and the book market: especially for guests waiting for the owners at the coffee table, so-called “coffee table books” were invented - richly illustrated books of album format with a hard cover, usually entertaining and secular content.
