In March 2000, the presentation of the second generation C-Class took place. Externally, the car was similar to the S-Class W220, with the same rounded body, and inside the larger interior due to a more ergonomic layout.
Like its predecessor, the car had several lines of execution - standard Classic, luxurious Elegance and sporty Avantgarde. A significant part of the fleet of cars produced was the diesel version of the CDI. In addition, the Mercedes-Benz W203 was the first to use Common Rail technology for gasoline engines (CGI).
In 2001, the S203 wagon appeared and at the same time the three-door liftback CL203 Sportcoupe. The flagship AMG models were originally C32 (V6), but in 2003, as an experiment, the tuning studio presented the first (and so far the only) diesel model C30 CDI (I5), which was discontinued in 2005. In 2004, the C32 was replaced by a more powerful C55 (V8).
Production of a sedan and a station wagon in 2007 and the liftback in 2008 received a major update and was allocated to its own Mercedes-Benz CLC-class.
