Bicycle chain - a metal roller drive chain designed to transmit torque from the drive sprocket of a bicycle to a driven one. Chain efficiency can reach 98%. The circuit may also be part of a speed switch.
As an alternative to the circuit can be applied:
Direct transmission. The pedals are fixed directly to the hub of the drive wheel, one revolution of the pedals corresponds to one revolution of the wheel. This type of transmission was used on early models of bicycles, for example, penny-farthing, and is also used on children's tricycles (tricycles) and unicycle monocycles.
Gear. Torque is transmitted through a series of gears. This type of transmission was also used on early bicycles.
Shaft transmission. The transmission of torque occurs through a rotating shaft.
Belting. Torque is transmitted using a chevron belt. Advantages: unlike a chain, it does not get dirty, does not require lubrication, and is more durable. Disadvantages - it can only work with planetary rear hubs, a frame with a split rear dropout or feather is required (belts are one-piece).
Hydraulic transmission. The transmission of torque from the carriage assembly to the wheel occurs through the hydraulic system.
