A cruise is a type of passenger ship for pleasure trips, when the trip itself, the services of the ship, and sometimes the different destinations along the way (ie ports of call), are part of the experience. Transportation is not only the purpose of the cruise, particularly on cruises that return passengers to their original port (known as "closed circuit cruises"). In "cruises to nowhere" or "trips anywhere", the ship tours for 2-3 nights without any port of call. 1

On the other hand, transatlantic oriented to the transport they make trips in line and normally they transport passengers from a point to another one, instead of doing it in round trips. Traditionally, a transatlantic for a transoceanic voyage will be built to a higher standard than a typical cruise, including greater freeboard and stronger plates to withstand the rough seas and adverse conditions found in the open ocean, such as the North Atlantic. Ocean liners also tend to have greater fuel, food and other stores for long trips, compared to dedicated cruisers, but few remain, such as several preserved ocean liners including the Queen Mary 2, which makes scheduled trips to the North Atlantic.

The distinction between ocean liners and cruises has faded, particularly with respect to deployment, although differences in construction remain. Larger cruise ships have also embarked on longer trips, such as transoceanic trips that may not return to the same port for months (or longer round trips). 2 Some old ocean liners operate as cruisers, such as MS Marco Polo, although this number is decreasing. The only ship dedicated in operation as transatlantic is the RMS Queen Mary 2 of the Cunard line. She also has the conveniences of contemporary cruises and sees significant service on cruises.

Currently, cruises are considered one of the most emerging tourism sources, with an estimated annual figure of 16 million passengers, of which close to 4 million are single or single couples. However, this growth is reflected not only in the number of passengers but in all the direct and indirect jobs they generate. As a result, a high-quality structural improvement is underway to improve the management, maintenance, and design of the current navigation ports and those of new construction.

The media volume is gaining strength worldwide and all companies try to offer products and services of the latest generation to attract future passengers: large suites, natural grass, surf area, climbing, aquatic centers, Formula racing simulators 1, etc. Naturally, those companies that have yachts offer another type of more exclusive incentives due to several factors, such as size, location or itinerary.
