A golf car is a small car designed to carry golfers and their clubs. Usually designed for two passengers, less often - for four.

Making golf cars influenced sport in two ways. First, the golf courses had to be rebuilt in order to prevent the destruction of grass by the wheels of cars. Many kilometers of specially laid roads changed the appearance and playability of the fields. Secondly, the appearance of cars dramatically reduced the need for caddies, which negatively influenced both the quality of the fields (caddies regularly filled the potholes left by the clubs and smoothed the surface of the bunkers; players often forgot to do this) and the popularity of sports (the caddy’s work attracted golf young people).

Due to their compactness, small turning radius and ease of operation, golf cars are sometimes used as a means of transport and outside of golf courses.

The fragile ecology and small size of many inhabited islands necessitate restrictions on road transport; Golf cars are therefore the main means of transportation on the islands of Santa Catalina, Bald Head, Eng. North Captiva Island, Hamilton and Belize.

It is believed that for the first time a motorized vehicle was used on the golf course by an American from Arkansas J. K. Wadley, who saw a three-wheeled little car used in Los Angeles for bringing old people to shops. He bought the same little car, but found it difficult to ride around the field. The first specialized golf car was created in 1932, but did not spread. From the 1930s to the beginning of the 1950s, such machines were used mainly by people with disabilities who found it difficult to walk on the field themselves.

By the mid-1950s, golf cars were widely used. These mostly electric machines were made by several manufacturers, including Sears and Robak and Victor Adding Machines.

Golf carts come in a wide range of formats and are more generally used to convey small numbers of passengers short distances at speeds less than 15 mph (24 km/h) per ANSI Standard z130.1 as originally manufactured.Due to their compactness, small turning radius and ease of operation, golf cars are sometimes used as a means of transport and outside of golf courses.

They are generally around 4 feet (1.2 m) wide × 8 feet (2.4 m) long × 6 feet (1.8 m) high and weigh 900 pounds (410 kg) to 1,000 pounds (450 kg). Most are powered by 4-stroke engines.
