The Republic P-47 Thunderbolt 3D model, also known by its nickname "Juggernaut" or simply "Jug" or "T-bolt" 3, was a combat aircraft of the Air Forces of the United States Army (USAAF) in the Second World War, produced by the United States from 1941 to 1945. Its primary armament was eight .50-caliber machine guns and in the role of the fighter - bomber that could carry five 25-mm rockets or a bomb load of 1103 kg. When fully loaded, the P-47weighs up to eight tons, which makes it one of the heaviest aircraft of the war. The P-47 was designed around the powerful Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp engine, which was also used by two fighters from the United States Navy, the Grumman F6F Hellcat, and the Vought F4U Corsair. The Thunderbolt was effective as a short to medium range escort fighter in high-altitude air-to-air combat and ground attacks in the European and Pacific theaters of World War II.

The P-47 was one of the main fighters of the Air Forces of the Army of the United States (USAAF) in the Second World War and served with the allied air forces, including France, Great Britain, and the Soviet Union. Mexican and Brazilian squads that fought alongside the United States also flew the P-47.

The P-47 proved to be effective in aerial combat against the Luftwaffe but also proved to be especially capable in the role of ground attack. It was armed with eight .50 caliber machine guns, four on each wing. Its modern equivalent in that role, the Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II, shares its name in honor of the legendary harshness of the P-47 and its use as an assault fighter-bomber.
