The Porsche Cayman is a mid-engine two-seater sports car. The first generation of the Cayman was launched in 1996 and the second generation arrived in the late 2005. It is manufactured in Stuttgart in Germany and Uusikaupunki in Finland. It is based on the concept Porsche Boxter but uses a modified flat-6 engine which in terms of performance stand somewhere between the Boxter and the 911. The Cayman is supposed to be a purer sports car than the Boxter with stiffer suspension and high performance.

A new stripped out and powerful version of the Cayman s, Cayman R was launched in 2010 at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Unnecessary pieces of equipment such as air-conditioning, audio system and door handles were removed in order to cut the weight. Weight cutting was done wherever possible, carbon fibre bucket seats and the lightest set of tyres offered by the company weighing less than 80 lbs.

The Cayman R also gets a smaller fuel tank and a lightweight lithium-ion battery. As a result, it has shaved an extra 121 lbs and the total weight has come down to 2855 lbs.
