Moon or Mars rover is a motor vehicle that travels across the surface of moon or mars upon arrival. Rovers have several advantages over stationary landers; they explore more territory, they can be directed to interesting features.
There are four successful robotically operated Mars rovers. On January 24, 2016, NASA reported that Curiosity and Opportunity, the two rovers will explore the planet Mars for the evidence of ancient life. NASA declared the end of Opportunity mission on February 13, 2019 after several failed trials to wake up the rover. Three countries have been operating rovers on the Moon, the Soviet Unions, the United States, and China.
Lunokhod 1 was the first procrystalline-panel-powered of two unmanned lunar rovers landed on the Moon by Soviet Unions. The spacecraft that carried Lunokhod was called Luna 17.
Lunokhod 2 was the second and a monocrystalline-panel-powered of two unmanned lunar rovers landed on the Moon by the Soviet Union as a part of the Lunokhod program. The Luna 21 landed on the Moon and deployed the second Soviet Union lunar rover Lunokhod 2 in January 1973.
