Til’ Death do us Part, 2022-2023, Polymer Clay, Resin, 21 x 29cm
Life is fleeting and fragile. Til’ Death do us Part explores transience, impermanence and mortality and the skin as a vital organ of shape and form. Innately, we are pack-animals who rely on community and connection to stay alive. Vulnerable, fragile body-language is mirrored in each sculpture. Our skin is a roadmap for understanding our metal-health and wellbeing. It is an illustration of our diet, a painting of what our mind and body digests. Our skin is an abstracted depiction of our deepest sensitivities that reside within its texture. We can hide behind our skin, but the veil is thin, it does not lie. It wears our problems and subtly communicates them to others. Til’ Death do us Part is an exploration of skin from a shape and textural standpoint.
To create a textured sculpture offer’s an eerie, provocative reality. The sickly, stomach churning skin colour palette is inspired by an innate sense of anxiety. These sculptures induce feelings of anxiety and terror that mirror the artist’s emotions during this very difficult time, whilst also encouraging us to come together in challenging circumstances.
