Hammer - a small percussion instrument used for hammering nails, breaking objects and other works. Mainly made of steel. The hammer is one of the oldest instruments used by rational man.

The main part of the hammer is a compact mass of solid material, usually metal, which can be used to strike something without deforming. For the convenience of execution of blows and for bigger scope the shocking part of the hammer is put on the handle which can be made also of metal, or of wood or plastic.

The hammer has two different strikers - one smooth, the other tapering. Joiner's hammer has a forked protrusion, which is convenient for pulling nails. In stonework with lining the corners and edges with chisels, they beat it with a tool like a hammer - a mallet made of wood and having strikes on both sides. Sometimes, in order not to damage the part, use hammers, in which the impact part is made of soft material (rubber, copper, lead).

To work in zero gravity, a hammer is used that does not rebound upon impact. His hollow pole is filled with heavy metal shot.

Hammers used for embossing are round or square, the surface of the striker is flat. Hammer sock make spherical, of different diameter.

The nail puller is a manual lever-wedge device for pulling out (pulling out) nails driven into the material (wood, plastic, etc.). It is produced as an independent specialized tool or structurally combined with such tools as a hammer, scrap. The word "nail catcher" is Russian and comes from "tearing" (ripping out, pulling out) nails.

The device and the operation of the nail catcher
A nail puller is a curved metal wedge divided in two by a working groove designed to grip and hold when “pulling out” (pulling out) the nail behind the so-called. "Hat" of the material in which the nail is hammered. The action of the nail puller is based on the impact of the wedge on the wedged surfaces - the nail and the material into which the nail is hammered, as well as on the principle of the lever, with further pulling of the nail.
