Panzer III was the common name of a medium tank that was developed in the 1930s by Germany and was used extensively in World War II. The official German designation was Panzerkampfwagen III Sd Kfz. 141 (abbreviated PzKpfw III) translating as "armoured fighting vehicle".
Panzer III or Panzerkampfwagen III was a medium that was developed by Germany in 1930’s and were used in World War II. It was made with the intentions of making armoured fighting vehicle, whereas it was basically built for infantry support. The idea of this tank was introduced in January 1934 by Hienz Guderian. Later in 1936, Dailmer-Benz leaded design project was chosen for production. The first model came in May of 1937, whereas mass production 1939.
At its heart a 12-cylinder Maybach HL120 TRM300 PS (296 hp, 220 kW) is placed, which can generate the power of 12hp (9.6kW)/ tone. It has a very large fuel capacity 300-320 liter and can run with a speed of 40 km/h. It was a medium-size tank that’s why its weight was around 23.0 tons. A distinctive feature of panzer III is influenced by the British Vickers I tanks with three-man turret. By adapting this concept the commander of the tank was not used to distract from other roles and can maintain awareness of the situation for directing the tank.
