Lawson’s Cypress also known as Port Orford cedar is a species of sonifer in the genus. It is native to Oregon and northwestern California, and grows from sea level up to 1,500 meter (4,900ft) in the valleys of the Klamath Mountains.

It is a large evergreen tree, reaching the height of up to 60 meter. It was first discovered by Euro-Americans near Port Orford in Oregon. It was first cultivated in the year 1854 by collectors working for Charles Lawson of the Lawson and Son nursery in Edinburgh, Scotland after whom it was named as Lawson’s Cypress by a Botanist Andrew Murray.

The wood is light yet has great strength and not resistance, and is particularly highly valued in east Asia. It is largely exported to Japan where it is in high demand for making coffins and for shrines and temples. Its lumber is also known for its highly fragrant ginger aroma. It is also preferred for preparing arrow shafts due to the straightness of its grain. It is also acceptable in manufacturing of stringed instruments.

Lawson’s Cypress grows best in well-drained but moist soils, in a fairly sheltered position in full sun.

Long trees are also preferred in the gaming and graphics world to give it a wild look. FlatPyramid has developed a 3-D model of Game Ready Low Poly Tree Pack 1 (Lawson’s Cypress). It is a game ready model ready to be used as soon as you purchase it. We hope that you like it.
