The new generation of the model “300” (in some countries was called exclusively as “300C”) has replaced the model Chrysler 300M - a full-size sedan, produced from 1998 to 2004. It was performed in four versions: 300 (base) with an engine capacity of 2.7 liters. and 6 cylinders; Touring or Limited - 3.5 l. V6 (249–253 hp); 300С - 5,7 l. V8 (340 hp); SRT-8 (top) - 6.1 liters. V8 capacity of 425 liters. with.

This generation was based on the Chrysler LX rear-wheel-drive platform with Mercedes-Benz W210 components, including such as the design of the rear suspension, front seats, steering column, the design of a 5-speed automatic transmission, as well as all-wheel-drive system 4Matic. The 300 was also equipped with a double-wishbone front suspension from the Mercedes-Benz W220.

In the US, the model entered the market in 2004 with 6-cylinder engines in the base and middle trim levels, and with an 8-cylinder engine in the top-end configuration. Later, a sports modification of the SRT-8, having a 6.1-liter V8 engine, appeared.

The letter “C” in the title indicated the top configuration model with V8 engines of the HEMI family. Until 2007, the 300C had a distinctive front end design due to the licensed xenon headlights that came with the V8. Other differences "300C":

Headlamps with prominent rounding at the sides (300 for a square design);
Front bumper with different design vents. The bumper moldings had a different, more extensive chrome plating;
The “SRT-8” version had a similar bumper with an additional spoiler, but without chrome on the moldings.
Since 2007, these headlights have been offered for the “300” version with 3.5 liters V6. Accordingly, the "300" with such headlights has become externally similar to the version of the "300C" with 5.7 liters V8, having received the same front bumper, but at the same time it did not have nameplates "300C" on the body.

When developing the Chrysler 300, a station wagon was also planned. Since this type of bodywork was more practical, it was decided to produce a wagon under the Dodge brand, which corresponded to the positioning of the Dodge brand in the US market as a car manufacturer for more active and young people. The wagon was named Magnum and was produced in 2004 in the same factory as the Chrysler 300 sedan. Magnum had a different body design (in the style of the Dodge brand), as well as a different interior without a retro style. Technically, the model repeated the sedan. Due to poor demand, the Dodge Magnum was discontinued in 2008.

In Europe, and in particular in the Russian Federation, all versions of the Chrysler 300, regardless of engine and equipment, were sold exclusively as “300C”. The letter “C” in this case did not indicate the top-end configuration of the model with the V8, in contrast to the version for the American market. At the same time, the model differed in the proposed configurations and body types:

Along with the sedan, the 300 was offered with a station wagon. The versatile person, as a matter of fact, was turned Dodge Magnum, differing in body panels and an interior. Production wagon "300C" was established in Austria at the factory Magna Steyr.
All European versions with V6 and 5.7 liters V8, regardless of body type and configuration, externally were similar to the American version with 5.7 liters V8 (headlights, taillights, bumpers, nameplates "300C"). The difference was only linzovannaya xenon headlights, included in the basic package (unlike the American version). Externally, the version of the SRT-8 was similar to the American version.
