The bulldozer Caterpillar D9 IDF nicknamed doobi ( in Hebrew, דובי word in Hebrew for teddy bear ) - is a front end loader in its basic structure built by US firm Caterpillar Inc. made based on the model D9 , the that the IMI has adapted an attached armor system, which has been gradually modified by the IDF, IMI, and IAIto increase its operational, survival and assault capabilities in hostile environments and prepared to carry out heavy bursts, making penetration jobs easier for combat engineers and their operatives in conflict zones. The IDF D9 serves in the Israel Defense Forces.
Israeli Armored D9R Bulldozer IDF reaches the market in 1954. It was introduced by the American firm Caterpillar Inc., and quickly found its use in construction and engineering works in civil works, and in Israel another use, of a type of machine for military use to demolish and do engineering works but with added protection and armor. It would be put into service with the IDF military engineers arm later. Several D9 bulĂłzeres without shields took part in the works of the Sinai War (1956), and in the 1967 war, in the 1973 war, and in the 1982 operation. During the Yom Kippur war, the D9 bulldozers opened routes for Israeli forces, cleared of mines and other anti-tank devices, removing obstacles to progress on all fronts.
On the southern front, the D9 built bridges and brought equipment to deployed troops, helping General Ariel Sharon cross the canal, being decisive in the outcome of this war against Egypt. The D9 overcame the barriers around the canal, removing the mines laid by the Arabs in their vicinity. On the north front, the D9 was the first motorized vehicle to reach the pass of Mount Hermon , as well as they helped pave the access roads for the IDF's engineering corps, the Golani Brigade, and paratrooper troops, taking a clear part in actions aimed at preventing these areas from being taken by the troops of Syria
