The armoured Bulldozer is a basic tool of Combat engineering vehicles. These combat vehicles combine the massive capabilities of a bulldozer with armour which protects the vehicle and its operator in a combat.
The first armoured Bulldozer was developed by the British during World War II. This was a traditonal bulldozer fitted with armour to protect the driver and the engine. The bulldozers were in preparations for the Battle of Normandy with the tasks of clearing the invasion beaches of obstacles.
The Israeli Armoured D9, nicknamed Doobi, is a Catterpillar D9 bulldozer that was modified by the Israeli Forces. The D9R is the latest generation of the D9 bulldozer in Israeli Defence Forces. It has power equal to 405 to 410 horses. It has a crew of two people, an operator and a commander. It is operated by the Israeli Engineering Corps.
The D9 has a wide variety of Engineering tasks for the Isareli Defence Forces, including earthworks, digging moats, mounting sand barriers, building fortifications, rescuing stuck, overturned or damaged vehicles.
The D9 was used to cause massive damage to the Palestinian infrastructure because Israeli army saw the D9 as a necesssary tool for combatting insurgency and reducing self casualities.
