Sd. Kfz.251 / 3 - mittlerer Funkpanzerwagen - communication machine. Depending on the purpose, FuG 4, FuG 5, FuG 7, FuG 8, FuG 11 and FuG 12 radio stations were equipped in various combinations. Mast, pin and loop antennas were used.

The Sd.Kfz. 251s were the most widely used and produced German half-tracks of the World War 2. With at least 15,252 armored fighting vehicles of variants were produced by Germany which was used by its allies. A number of them were converted to specialized vehicles for communications, engineering, and self-propelled guns. The Sd.Kfz. 251/3 – Communications vehicle, fitted with extra radio equipment for command use in Ausf. C and Ausf. D versions. It is the latest in the Sd.Kfz.251 series from AFV Club and represents the Sd.kfz.251/3 Ausf.D mittlerer Funkpanzerwagen communications vehicle which replaced the earlier Ausf.C Funkpanzerwagen version.
The 251/3 Ausf.D Funkpanzerwagen had a number of sub-variants depending on the radio fit for different roles such as tank communication, command vehicle or air co-operation with initially five sub-variants and from late 1944 increased to seven sub-variants

One interesting variant of it was made at the closing stage of the war, when German forces removed the armored bodies of damaged Sd.Kfz. 251s and installed them on light truck chassis, resulting in a wheeled variant of the Sd.Kfz. 251. At least two were made in this way judging by their number plates.
