The rhinoceros beetles are also called Dynastinae; they are a sub family of the scarab beetle family. Other common names for the rhinoceros beetles are Hercules Beetle, Unicorn Beetle or horn beetle. Till now, over 300 species of it are known.
The rhinoceros beetles are among the largest beetles; they reach more than 15 cm (6 Inches) in length, but are completely harmless to humans because they cannot bite or sting. Some of the members of the species are known to have strength to lift 850 times heavier than their own weight. Their common name refers to the characteristic horns bore only by the males of each species. The horns are used to fight against other males during the mating season and for digging.
The body of a fully grown beetle is covered with a thick exoskeleton. Their best protection against predators is their size and build. When the son is out, they hide under logs or in vegetation to camouflage themselves from few predators big enough to want to eat them.
