The Sd.Kfz. 251 Half-Track was a WW2 German armored fighting vehicle designed by the Hanomag company.
SD.KFZ 251/1 Ausf.C – Hanomag Half-track was a Germans World war II armored fighting vehicle, which was designed by Hanomag Company. The design and structure were based on its earlier version Sd.kfz.11. This killing machine was designed to carry German infantry into the battle. It was a standard personnel carrier that was made with steel’s 5mm plates instead of armour.
There were 23 variants for the same model, which were identified through their given suffix. It was quite complicated to remember all the models. The Sd.kfz 251 Ausf.B Ground Stuka was one of the models. It was one of the command versions equipped with map boards, cipher, encoding machines, and Engima equipment. It was later on replaced by 251/3 IV.
It was carrying one Maybach HL42 6-cylinder petrol engine producing 100 PS (99 hp, 74 kW) easily. The operational range of this vehicle was 300 km, whereas it was able to crawl with a speed of 52.5 km/h. The early model was introduced in 1939 and issued to the 1st panzer division.
