The Sturmgeschuetz III (StuG III) assault gun was Germany‘s most produced armoured fighting vehicle during World War II. It was built on the chassis of the proben Panzer III tank. Initially intended as a mobile, armoured light gun for infantry support, the StuG was continually modified and was widely employed as a tank destroyer.
The StuG III assault gun was Germany’s most produced fully tracked armoured fighting vehicle during World War II. It originated from German experiences in World War I. The artillery at that time was heavy and not mobile enough to keep up with the advancing infantry to destroy bunkers, pillboxes and other fortifications.
While the StuG was considered self-propelled artillery, it was not clear which combat army would handle the new weapon. It was designed to fill an infantry close support combat role.
The StuG III series of vehicles proved very successful and served on all fronts, from Russia to North Africa and Western Europe to Italy. In 1943 and 1944, the Finnish Army received 59 StuG III from Germany and them against the Soviet Union. Thirty of the vehicles were received in 1943 and a further twenty-nine obtained in 1944. The first batch destroyed at least eighty seven enemy tanks with a loss of only eight StuGs.
These vehicles were also delivered to friendly nations to Germany, such as Bulgaria, Hungary, Italy, and Spain. Hungary stood their Stugs against the Soviet Union Army during their sweep into the country by the end of 1944.
Well, it was a beast on the battlefield and is the same on the screen. FlatPyramid has developed a high resolution 3-D model of the StuG-III Ausf G. It can be used in architectural visualizations, animations, movies and games. We hope that you like it.
Thanks for showing interest in the 3-D model of the StuG-III Ausf G.
