Tiger I is the common name of the German heavy tank used in World War II, developed in 1942.
The final official German Designation was Panzerkampfwagen Tiger Ausf.E, often shortened to Tiger.
Panzer VI – Tiger is a german heavy tank where heavy means the tank is provided with better armor protection as well as equal or greater firepower than the lighter class tanks.It was employed from 1942 in Europe and Africa. It gave the first armored fighting vehicle to the German Army. 1,347 units were built between 1942 and 1944.
Just like other German tank projects, the development of the Tiger is very complex as the name ‘Tiger’ itself is no less complex. Firstly it was used on 15th October 1942.
The Tiger used many components that were developed originally for other tanks. It included parts from the VK36.01 such as the steering gear, shock absorbers, suspension, bump stops, idler wheel, and disc-type wheels. It was called an outstanding design of its time. It is the tank that most people can name even if they are not interested in tanks.
