Beiqi Foton Motor Co., Ltd is a state-owned company founded in 1996 by merging about 100 other companies from 13 regions of the PRC. The company produces cars, off-road cars, minibuses, large city buses, trucks, engines, tractors, agricultural machinery and much more. Foton is a subsidiary of Beijing Automotive Industry Holding.
In 1996, the company was registered in Beijing as Beiqi Foton Motor Co., Ltd. The holding's headquarters is located in Beijing, in the Changping District, and its branches are dispersed in different provinces.
In 1998, Beiqi Foton Motor shares were listed on the stock exchange. Since 1998, Foton Motors has established a quality control management system in accordance with the international quality standards ISO 9001 on the basis of the German quality control system VDA 6.0.
In 2003, the company signed a strategic partnership with DaimlerChrysler.
