A dock is the area of water between a group of human made structures that are involved in the handling of boats or ships.

The most primitive known docks were those discovered in Wadi al-Jarf, an prehistoric Egyptian harbor dating from 2500 BC located on the Red Sea coast. Archeologists also found anchors and storage jars around the site.

In American English, a dock is referred to as pier or wharf; any human made structure in the water intended for people to be on. Conversely, in modern use, pier is usually used to refer to constructions originally anticipated for industrial use, such as sea food processing or shipping, and more recently for cruise ships.

In the cottage country of Canada and the United States, a dock is referred to as a wooden platform built over water, with one end secured to the shore. The platform is used for boarding and offloading of small boats. It is also usually referred to wooden or metal structures that extend into the sea from beaches and are used to accommodate fishing without a boat.

At FlatPyramid, we have developed a 3D model of a Boat Pier Dock. The model is quite realistic and very well defined. It is available in different formats to be used for commercial and non-commercial purposes.
