The Madison Square Garden (abbreviated as MSG or Garden ) is a multi-purpose sports hall located in the district of Manhattan, in New York ( New York State, United States ). It is located at the intersection between Seventh and Eighth avenues of 31st to 33rd Streets, and above Pensylvania Station. It was inaugurated on February 11, 1968.
It is the fourth building with the same name in the city; the first two coliseums ( MSG (1879) and MSG (1890) ) were located in Madison Square, where the name comes from. When the second pavilion was demolished, a new Coliseum ( MSG (1925) ) was built at the intersection of Eighth Avenue and 50th Street.
The current location of the MSG is located in the place where the old Pennsylvania Station was located. For this reason, in 2013 the mayor of New York gave an ultimatum of 10 years to the ownership of the building to demolish the pavilion for the future construction in its place of the new station.
