ISU 152 - 65 - Soviet heavy self-propelled gun 3d model on Flatpyramid.

ISU-152 (Object 241) - the Soviet heavy self-propelled artillery installation (SAU) during the Great Patriotic War. In the name of the car, the letter "I", in addition to the standard Soviet designation "SU" is a self-propelled unit, means "on the basis of an IC tank." The ACS of the same caliber, called the SU-152, was produced on another tank base. Index 152 means the caliber of the main armament of the machine.

Developed by the design office of the pilot plant number 100 in June-October 1943 and adopted by the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army (RKKA) on November 6 of the same year. At the same time, its mass production began at the Chelyabinsk Kirov Plant (ChKZ), which lasted until 1946. Several cars of this brand were produced in 1945 by the Leningrad Kirov Plant (LKZ). ISU-152 was widely used at the final stage of the Great Patriotic War in almost all aspects of the use of self-propelled artillery. In addition to the Red Army, ISU-152 were in service with the armies of Poland and Czechoslovakia, single captured machines were used by the Wehrmacht and the army of Finland. Only one photograph (dated 1944) with ISU-152 used by the Finnish army is known.

In the post-war period, ISU-152 went through modernization and was in service with the Soviet army for a long time. They were also supplied to equip the Egyptian armed forces. Self-propelled guns transferred to Egypt took part in Arab-Israeli armed conflicts in the Middle East. Participated in the Six-Day War in the form of fixed firing points buried in the sand on the fences. Non-modernized versions were supplied to Egypt, however, a night vision system with an IR illuminator mounted in pairs with a headlamp in a protective basket to the left of the gun was installed on them. Since the mid-1970s, ISU-152 have been decommissioned from the Soviet Army and replaced with more modern ACS; A number of survivors from cutting metal machines now serve as monuments and exhibits in museums around the world.

The slang name for ISU-152 is “Hypericum”. In the Wehrmacht, it was called "Dosenöffner" (with it. - "can opener").

Work on the creation of an ACS IMS-152 began in June 1943 at the design office of the experimental plant No. 100 in Chelyabinsk in connection with the final decision to replace the production of a heavy KV-1s tank with a new promising tank IS-1.
However, on the basis of the KV tank, a heavy SU-152 assault gun was produced, the need for which the army was extremely high (as opposed to the need for KV heavy tanks). The excellent fighting qualities of the SU-152 served as the basis for creating its counterpart on the basis of the IS-1 tank.

The development of ISU-152 was carried out under the leadership of Joseph Yakovlevich Kotin, the main developer of the entire Soviet line of heavy tanks. The chief designer of ISU-152 was G. N. Moskvin. In the early stages, the project of the new ACS was designated as EC-152. In October 1943, the first prototype, “Object 241”, was built. He successfully passed the factory and state tests; On November 6, 1943, by the decision of the State Defense Committee No. GOKO-4504ss, the new ACS was adopted by the Red Army under the final name of ISU-152. In the same month, the mass production of ISU-152 began at ChKZ. In December 1943, the SU-152 and ISU-152 were still produced at the Chelyabinsk Concrete Plant together, and from the next month, the ISU-152 completely replaced its predecessor, the SU-152 on the assembly lines.

In view of the heavy workload of ChKZ, the release of heavy tanks IS-2 of an armored hull for self-propelled guns was supplied by the Ural Heavy Machinery Plant (UZTM).

In the production process, minor changes were made to the design of ISU-152, aimed at improving combat and operational qualities and reducing the cost of the machine. In the second half of 1944, a new welded nose of a body made of rolled armored plates was introduced instead of a single-molded part, the thickness of the armored gun was increased from 60 to 100 mm. Also on the ACS began to install a 12.7-mm anti-aircraft heavy machine gun DShK and increased the capacity of internal and external fuel tanks. The 10P radio station was replaced with an improved version of the 10RK.
