The company was founded in Valkure (Valcourt, Quebec) in 1942 under the name L’Auto-Neige Bombardier Limitée by Joseph-Armand Bombardier and originally specialized in the production of snowmobiles. Aircraft company engaged in the mid-1980s.
In 2003, the company sold 65% of its Recreational Products division, which manufactures snowmobiles, all-terrain vehicles, jet skis, motorboats and other equipment for outdoor activities, concentrating on railway engineering and aircraft building. In 2012, 50% of BRP belonged to the Bain Capital investment fund, 15% from Caisse de Dépôt & Placements du Québec, and the remaining 35% of the company’s Recreational Products shares belong to the Bombardier family.
The company belongs to the world’s largest manufacturers of business class aircraft and aircraft of the regional destination.
The company’s Aerospace division is the fourth largest civilian aircraft manufacturer in the world after Boeing, Airbus, and Embraer.
